The company was founded in 1979 by Tommy Budgen. He took on the Peugeot franchise when it was a minor brand within the UK car industry. In 1989 he sold the business to Robin and Grethe Wimbush and Ann Andrew.

Robin continued to develop the business further with great success and Budgen Motors has consistently achieved recognition for its standards and customer satisfaction. In addition to countless gold awards for its individual departments, Budgen Motors achieved Peugeot’s Gold Lion rating in 10 of the 12 years the award existed, making it the third highest achieving dealership in the UK network.

Sadly Robin Wimbush passed away in January 2004 but he left behind him a strong legacy and a solid business. His friend Kim Nakhla became chairman of Budgen Motors in 2005 and helped restructure the Company in 2006.

A second franchise (Alfa Romeo) was added in 2007, and the business continues to grow today under the guidance of the Wimbush family who are proud to celebrate 20 years of ownership this year.
